What is the difference between the Limited X-ray Tech program and the full Radiography Technology program?
The Limited X-ray Tech program trains students to perform basic X-ray procedures commonly encountered in clinical and outpatient settings, such as urgent care centers and family practice clinics. It provides a solid foundation in radiography and is ideal for individuals exploring a future in medical imaging or seeking to advance their current healthcare career and earning potential.
Graduates may work in various outpatient medical clinics, but are not authorized to perform certain advanced procedures, including those involving the C-arm, Fluoroscopy, or other specialized X-ray exams.
In contrast, a Radiography Technology program prepares students for a full career as Radiologic Technologists (RTs). RTs are licensed to perform a wider range of imaging procedures and are typically preferred for hospital employment.
Students interested in advanced imaging specialties—such as CT, MRI, Ultrasound, or Mammography—must complete a full Radiography Technology program and pursue additional certification or cross-training in those areas.
Admission requirements may be met by completing the Entrance Assessment or by submitting qualifying documentation. The Entrance Assessment can be taken at an MTECH Testing Center, and qualifying documents should be emailed to transcripts@mtec.edu.

Proof of certification or licensure must be sent to radtech@mtec.edu. Prerequisite verification must be completed before registering for the program. Please allow up to three business days for verification and processing. Inactive or expired certifications or licenses will not be accepted.
Once previous steps have been completed, eligibility is met to register for the first course within the program. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Tuition and fees are due for the first course upon registration.
Prospective students can register through the Student Portal, or in person at Student Services.
