Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation of critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system (EMS).

Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs) possess the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. AEMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. AEMTs perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. AEMTs function as a link between the scene and the emergency health care system.

Minimum Age Requirement: 18 years old. High school students must be in their senior year.
Registration opens at 8:00 AM on the Student Portal, and remains open until classes are full.

  • Must have current EMT license with the State of Utah. Proof must be emailed to ems@mtec.edu before a student can register.

  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from a state approved organization. Proof must be emailed to ems@mtec.edu before a student can register. CPR is not sufficient. If you do not have a current BLS certification, we recommend taking the Basic Life Support course.

  • Satisfy Entrance Requirements with Testing Center

  • MTECH Program Certificate in Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

  • Students are prepared to sit for the Advanced Emergency Medical Certificate exam through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT)

  • Students can obtain a Utah Advanced EMT license by passing the NREMT exam and approved application process

Do I have to have a current EMT certification to take Advanced EMT?
Yes – you must submit a copy of your EMT certification to Student Services before you register.

How to Apply

Submit MTECH Application

Applying is free and easy! When you apply, please choose “undecided” as your program choice. You will select Advanced Emergency Medical Technician after being accepted to MTECH.

Take the Entrance Assessment

Admission requirements may be met by taking the Entrance Assessment OR by providing qualifying documentation. The Entrance Assessment can be taken at a Testing Center, and qualifying documents can be sent to transcripts@mtec.edu.

Submit Current State of Utah EMT License

Proof of license must be emailed to ems@mtec.edu. The EMT license cannot expire during the duration of the AEMT program.

If you do not have a current EMT license, we recommend taking the Emergency Medical Technician program.

Submit Basic Life Support Certification

Proof of certification must be emailed to ems@mtec.edu. The BLS certification cannot expire during the duration of the AEMT program.

If you do not have a current BLS certification, we recommend taking the Basic Life Support course.

Register for Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

Once previous steps have been completed, eligibility is met to register for the first course within the program. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Tuition and fees are due for the first course upon registration.

Prospective students can register through the Student Portal, or in person at Student Services.
