Automotive Maintenance
and Light Repair

This course is a prerequisite for all other Automotive programs. If you are new vehicle maintenance and repair this is the place to start! Mainenance and Light Repair is aimed at technicians involved with vehicle maintenance and light repair services such as performing scheduled maintenance and common bumper-to-bumper repairs. The MTECH Automotive courses prepare students to take the ASE G1 competency tests and certification exams. ASE certifications are the industry standard, and required by many car dealerships as well as independent repair shops across the country.

Automotive service technicians and mechanics, often called service technicians or service techs, inspect, maintain, and repair cars and light trucks. Service technicians work on traditional mechanical components, such as engines, transmissions, belts, and hoses. However, they must also be familiar with a growing number of electronic systems. Braking, transmission, and steering systems, for example, are controlled primarily by computers and electronic components. Maintenance and Light Repair gives students a solid foundation in a variety of areas within the automotive industry including:

Shop and Personal Safety

Engine Repair

Automatic Transmission and Transaxle

Manual Drive Train and Axles

Suspension and Steering Systems

Brakes

Electrical Systems

Heating and Air Conditioning

Engine Performance

Customer Service and Professionalism
