MTECH’s 2026 STUDENTS OF THE YEAR

Mountainland Technical College is proud to recognize Kimberly Tervort and Holly Chun as its 2026 Students of the Year.

Kimberly is a Radiography Technology student representing the School of Healthcare. Holly is an Automotive Technology student representing the Clyde School of Trades.

Though their paths look different, both Kimberly and Holly exemplify what it means to pursue opportunity, overcome challenges, and build a future with purpose.

A RETURN WITH PURPOSE
For Kimberly Tervort, MTECH has been part of her journey for nearly a decade. After completing the Medical Assistant program nine years ago, she spent several years working in the field, where she discovered a new interest while collaborating with radiologic technologists on the job.

Driven by her love of photography and inspired by the impact of radiology, Kimberly made the decision to return to MTECH to pursue the Radiography Technology program.

Throughout her training at MTECH, Kimberly embraced the fast-paced, ever-changing nature of the healthcare industry. Each patient and clinical experience strengthened her ability to adapt, think critically, and provide quality care.

Kimberly’s motivation to succeed in both her program and career is deeply personal. As a mother of two, she is committed to showing her children that hard work and determination can open doors. “Today’s students can be tomorrow’s leaders,” Kimberly shares. It’s a mindset she lives out every day.

Looking ahead, Kimberly hopes to work in X-ray and expand her skills into CT, with a particular interest in the operating room. Outside of her studies, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and daughters.

A PIVOT FROM SCRUBS TO SHOP TOOLS
Holly Chun’s journey to MTECH took an unexpected turn, but one that ultimately led her to discover her passion.

Holly originally planned to apply to the Surgical Technology program, but missed the application deadline by just one day. Rather than putting her goals on hold, she explored other opportunities at MTECH and found herself drawn to the Automotive Technology program.

With prior experience working at a tire shop, Holly developed a strong interest in the automotive industry. As MTECH, she continued to build on that foundation, gaining technical skills and learning the importance of precision and attention to detail.

“Even the smallest details matter,” Holly emphasizes. “Being observant is key.”

Now, as an MTECH instructor, Holly teaches other students to take initiative and utilize information to deepen their understanding.

Holly’s goals go beyond the automotive shop. She hopes to one day invent something that improves efficiency in the automotive industry and is passionate about helping others better understand the field.

Outside of the program, Holly spends time with her two children and enjoys creative outlets like writing and painting.

While Kimberly and Holly may be pursuing different fields, they share a common theme: a commitment to growth and a desire to create better futures for themselves and their families.

Additionally, their stories highlight what makes MTECH unique. They are real examples of students finding their path through hands-on training and real-world experiences.

As the 2026 Students of the Year, Kimberly and Holly represent the determination and drive that define the MTECH student experience.
