Mountainland Technical College and Xactware teamed up to host the Mountainland Code Camp. High School Students from Alpine, Nebo, and Wasatch School Districts participated in the event. The event was held at Xactware’s campus in Lehi, Utah.
For 24 hours, the students worked vigorously on team projects. Over the course of the time, there were a plethora of projects completed and finished. At the end of the 24 hour period, students presented their projects to judges from entities such as Xactware, Tech Trep Academy, Infotrax, Utah Open Source, and the Utah State Office of Education.
One team worked on a social media platform. Jesse Garcia, Chad Malmrose, and Cody Murdock attend Wasatch High School and participated in the event. When asked why they love coding so much, Cody said, “I got into programming because it is fun and I love to solve problems. It’s fun because I get to see instant solutions to my problems.” The group loved the opportunity to learn to code better.
Due to sponsors, the event was completely free for students. Food was provided by MTECH as students worked in teams throughout the entire 24 hour period. Many students loved the thought that they were doing something similar to Facebook’s “hack nights”. Garcia said, “It is fun to work with your friends and hear what some of the other groups are on.” MTECH is pleased to support high school students as they learn the new coding languages of the future.
