FAQs
That’s okay! You just have to be a student between July 1st and June 30th in the academic year leading up to the national competition date.
Competitions are organized into three categories: Leadership, Occupationally Related and Skilled and Technical. Competitions may require prior knowledge and training based on their category. Please see the SkillsUSA Categories and Descriptions page for more details.
No, you have to be registered with MTECH’s chapter to compete under MTECH. You cannot compete under both a High School and MTECH chapter.
No. Neither SkillsUSA nor HOSA require you to attend any meetings or service projects. If you would like to get involved, please contact afton.carlson@mtec.edu. There is no obligation in order to compete.
Students participating in HOSA competitions are strongly encouraged to pick two events. Students participating in SkillsUSA competitions should work with their instructor to decide if they will compete in one or more events. SkillsUSA seats are limited and students may be required to compete in less events to allow other MTECH students the opportunity to compete.
As an MTECH student we only require you to pay the registration fee. For HOSA that is $60, and for SkillsUSA it is $25. You will have to find transportation to State competitions, but if you make it to nationals, travel, competition, and accommodations are fully covered by MTECH. Food is paid for by the student.
