Cosmetology Fashion Show
Mountainland Technical College (MTECH) held its semi-annual Formal Wear Fashion Show. The event was produced by the Cosmetology program at the school. A total of 260 people were in attendance to watch the students showcase their skills. The show was part of the students’ hands-on training that will prepare them for a career as a cosmetologist.
For students and instructors, the event is the highlight of the program. Darci Copling, the student winner of the Red Carpet category, said, “I love that I could be creative and create my own style.” Darlene Durrant, Salon Manager and Instructor, said, “It’s just an awesome evening. I just had to say ‘wow’ to all the amazing projects the students put together.” She also said, “My favorite part is seeing the students apply nails, hair, makeup, costume and every facet of cosmetology in order to create the perfect end result.”
Cosmetology is the art of hair cutting, hair coloring, barbering, and make-up application. The MTECH Cosmetology program has seen great success in the careers of its graduates. In 2014, the Cosmetology program placed 98 percent of its graduates in jobs upon graduation. In addition to placing them in jobs, 100 percent of the graduates became licensed in the state of Utah. Both statistics lead the state among all Cosmetology schools.
The MTECH Cosmetology program gives students in-depth and hands-on experience in the field of cosmetology. Students are required to spend at least 1600 in-class hours during their time in the program. During the program students learn cosmetology theory from their instructors in the classroom. Most importantly, the students practice the theory in the salon. MTECH has a full service salon at both the Thanksgiving Point and Spanish Fork campuses. The salons give students the real-life experience of being a Cosmetologist. Cosmetology students also are certified as aestheticians, barbers, nail technicians giving them a well-rounded set of skills.
