In Phlebotomy, students learn about the past and present of phlebotomy practices, infection control, equipment, safety, the circulatory system, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, preanalytical consideration, venipuncture, straights venipuncture, butterfly venipuncture, special collections, patient identification, and other relevant skills. Students also learn advanced phlebotomy procedures ensuring adequate knowledge and skills in their field. Students hone communication and phlebotomy skills, while practicing real-life scenarios in a controlled environment. Students explore phlebotomy jobs and prepare for employment by demonstrating learned skills.

Will I need to have blood draws done on me when I am in the class?
Yes, all students are required to participate as a patient and a phlebotomist with their classmates.
Do I have to be 18 yrs old to start the program?
You must be 17 yrs old and at least a senior in high school to take the program. If you are still 17 yrs old at the completion of the program, it may be difficult to find employment until reaching 18 yrs old and completion of HS. These restrictions depend on the employer.
Do I need to buy my own scrubs for class?
Yes, you will need to purchase at least two pairs of scrubs to have at the start of class. You may buy any brand and color of scrubs for our program. They need to fit well and be appropriate for a healthcare setting. No company logos can be on the scrubs in the classroom (ex, Intermountain, Revere, Biolife, etc.).
How many days can I be absent while in this program?
You are only allowed 3 absences due to the short timeline of the program. Anything over 3 absences, will not complete the program with certification.
Where can a Phlebotomist work?
Graduates are able to work as a phlebotomist and use their phlebotomy skills in a variety of hospitals, care centers, clinics, donation centers, and other healthcare settings.
Admission requirements may be met by taking the Entrance Assessment OR by providing qualifying documentation. The Entrance Assessment can be taken at a Testing Center, and qualifying documents can be sent to transcripts@mtec.edu.

Once the previous steps have been completed, eligibility is met to register for the program. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tuition and fees are due for the first course upon registration.
Prospective students can register through Learning Stream or in person at Student Services.
To register, you will use your Canvas login and will need your MTECH Student ID number. These items are included in the email you received after your MTECH application; however, if you cannot find this information, please contact our Student Services team prior to registration day.

After a course is in your cart, you will have 5 minutes to complete the checkout process before it is unreserved and may be taken by another student.
