Practical Nursing Application
After completing all prerequisites, apply to the Practical Nursing Program

Please review the following to ensure you are prepared for when applications are open.

It is the responsibility of the student to make sure the prerequisite courses they take will be accepted at the school where they plan to complete their RN program, if applicable. Courses may be evaluated for acceptance by the practical nursing faculty.

Applicants may be in the process of completing prerequisite course(s) if the course(s) will be completed and a transcript can be produced with a C grade or higher before the first day of nursing classes.

Please note: Interviews for each application cycle will be held within 2 weeks of the application closing date.

Students satisfy each of the following:

Must have a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Must have a current BLS certificate.

Completion of all three prerequisite courses with a C or better. The required courses are Anatomy, Physiology, and EITHER Human Growth & Development OR Psychology. Introductory anatomy and physiology courses will not be accepted. Integrated Anatomy and Physiology courses will be accepted if both Part 1 and Part 2 have been completed with a C or better.

  • The prerequisite courses must be taken from a regionally accredited college or university (Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, Weber State University, Salt Lake Community College, etc). We do not accept prerequisite courses taken at schools such as Provo College, Ameritech, study.com, etc. If you have a question about your prerequisite courses and/or transcripts, please email nursing@mtec.edu for assistance.
  • There is no time limit associated with prerequisite courses but you will most likely be more successful in your completion of the Practical Nursing Program if your prerequisite courses have been taken within the past 4-5 years.

Must be 18 years or older.

Complete the Report of Health Evaluation Form (within one year of application date.)

Must take the most current version of the ATI TEAS. Test scores are valid for one year.

How to apply once applications are open:

Pay the $30 non-refundable PN program application fee to MTECH Student Services.

This can be done in person at any MTECH campus or by phone at 801-753-6282. Please note, there is no option to pay online at this time. Save your receipt as it will need to be uploaded to the nursing application.

Register, pay for, and take the ATI TEAS test.

New students applying for the Practical Nursing program are NOT required to take the MTECH entrance assessment. The TEAS test fulfills this requirement.

Completely fill out the online application packet and upload all of the following documents within the application:

  • Official Individual Performance Profile results from ATI TEAS test (within the last year)
  • Current CNA certificate
  • Copies of all official transcripts
  • Receipt for the $30 Practical Nursing application fee
