Mountainland Technical College’s Pharmacy Technician Program in Spanish Fork recently donated over $400 to Utah Food Banks.  Students raised money over the course of a month in order to contribute to the cause.  The donations were organized by Instructor Shauna Lindo. When Shauna Lindo found out that Bank of America sponsors a “Feed America” program, she got her class on board.  Bank of America promised to match $2 for every dollar that was donated through its program.  Students were eager to contribute any spare money they had.  Some students would bring in money from their friends and family.  All-in-all, the students raised $412.60.  With Bank of America’s match, it brought the total to $1,237.80. The students were very proud and held a special event to celebrate.  Olive Garden of Murray chose to sponsor the party and catered the charitable event for free.  The students were able to celebrate their achievements and spend quality time together.  Instructor Lindo said, “It was such an amazing experience to watch these kids become passionate about helping others.”  Not only were they helping people by contributing, but their education allows them to help people become healthy.  This mentality is what makes the Pharmacy Technician program so great. The Pharmacy Technician Program focuses on training skilled employees for local pharmacies.  Students complete 600 hours of training before they are certified to work.  During this time, they are taught pharmacy practices in a simulated retail or hospital setting.  Ultimately, the end goal for students is to get a job as a pharmacy technician.  Last year the job placement rate for the program was 82 percent.  MTECH is proud of the Pharmacy Technician program and its achievements throughout this year.
