Soroptomist International of Salt Lake City held an event to celebrate and give back to local women in the community. The organization recognized women who are both single mothers and students at local universities and colleges. Four MTECH students were in attendance for the event. The event provided these women and their children an opportunity to enjoy breakfast, Santa, and gifts. MTECH was represented by Brandy Nichol, Brittany Jolley, Kate Anderson, Angela Tremayne, and Fatima dos Santos. All of the women are striving to continue their education for the benefit of both them and their children. Brittany Jolley said, “This event was awesome. I came to MTECH so that I could give my kids a better life and make a difference in the community. Being recognized by Soroptomist Society was something that blew my mind!” The event was a great time for the students to relax and enjoy themselves. Santa was in attendance and children were able to tell him what they want for Christmas. Breakfast was provided by Café Madrid, and crafts were on table for the women and children to create holiday items. Soroptomist International also provided gifts for children to pick out and wrap for their mothers. The mothers were able to pick out a few gifts for their children. The ultimate mission of Soroptomist International is to serve and better the lives of women in Utah. Cathy Stevens, President of Soroptomist International Salt Lake said, “It is a great feeling to recognize women who are continuing their education and working hard to build the community.” The society’s mission aligns with MTECH’s to “enhance the employability of individuals through market driven education.”
