MTECH Begins New Surgical Technician Program
Mountainland Technical College is growing at an accelerated rate. With the growth comes a greater need for skill-focused education to fill new jobs that will open up in a growing economy. MTECH introduced the new Surgical Technician Program this Fall semester. The program will help meet the needs of surgical operating rooms at local hospitals.
Surgical Technicians have a fast-paced work environment. The job responsibilities include working in surgical suites to ensure patient safety, making sure equipment is clean and working properly, and making sure the procedure is done correctly. With important responsibilities, the MTECH Surgical Tech Program is a premier training program focused on producing skilled operation room technicians.
The program adds value to a growing list of nearly 50 programs offered at MTECH. Becky Flinders, Director of Programs at MTECH said, “Not only do we get the opportunity to fill a great need in the community for Surgical Techs, we get to do it with incredible faculty and state of the art equipment and facilities.” Many students shared the same thoughts that Director Flinders has. Joseph Stark, a new Surgical Tech student said, “I eventually want to become a trauma surgeon so this is helping me get ahead in my career.”
MTECH has become the local leader in technical education. Focusing on skills, certificates, and licensures, the school prepares students for their future careers. Last year, over 86 percent of graduates from MTECH programs were employed in their career fields upon graduation. MTECH looks forward to the success of the new Surgical Technician Program.
