Mountainland Technical College opened its doors to students for the Fall semester this past week. New to the incoming students is a program focusing on Web Programming and Development. The program is an industry-driven addition to over 40 programs offered by MTECH. Web Programming and Development is a growing industry under the Computer Systems field.  Students in this course will learn a variety of skills and abilities that pertain to coding computers. The program covers javascript, basic Os, html, and Css. These skills coupled with MTECH experience will give students the ability to obtain employment when they finish the course.  Lisa Birch, Director of Programs said, “The field of developers is in such high demand that we hope they actually finish the course before they get hired on.” The new program was fueled by industry need for skilled developers.  MTECH has collaborated with Xactware to create the new program. Director Birch said, “Xactware is great.  They provide ten developers to instruct the class and as part of the program, students complete a 240 hour externship at Xactware during the course.” As students finish the program, they will be qualified to become a Junior Developer. Instructor Dan Stephenson said, “The world has a high-demand for problem-solvers right now. This program will help them solve diverse problems and decide which problems they want to solve for the rest of their career.” MTECH is the leader in Career Technical Education for Utah, Summit, and Wasatch Counties. The school thrives on the ability to bring affordable, fast-track career paths to help supply skilled workers for the local workforce. Nearly 86 percent of graduates from MTECH obtain employment immediately upon graduation.  Along with Xactware, MTECH is thrilled to welcome the first Web Programming and Development Program to students.
