The Dental Assisting program is designed to prepare students for employment as a professional chairside assistant. Students focus on the basics of dental assisting, nutrition, dental prevention, dental disease, infection control, instruments, and tray setups for dental procedures. Students become proficient in dental materials, anatomy, radiology, dental specialties, law and ethics, and CPR. Students also learn through valuable clinical experiences.

Registration Opens: April 16, 2025
Minimum Age Requirement: 16 years old. High school students must be in their junior or senior year. High school juniors are only eligible for the January start date.

How to Apply

Submit MTECH Application

Applying is free and easy! When you apply, please choose “undecided” as your program choice. You will select Dental Assisting after being accepted to MTECH.

Take the Entrance Assessment

Admission requirements may be met by taking the Entrance Assessment OR by providing qualifying documentation. The Entrance Assessment can be taken at a Testing Center, and qualifying documents can be sent to transcripts@mtec.edu.

Submit Proof of TB Test & Hep B Immunization

Proof of TB test and the Hep B immunization should be sent to dentalassisting@mtec.edu.

Remember, proof of TB test completed within the past year must be submitted prior to registration.

Register for Dental Assisting

Once previous steps have been completed, eligibility is met to register for the first course within the program. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Tuition and fees are due for the first course upon registration.

Prospective students can register through the Student Portal, or in person at Student Services.

Dental Assisting I - Intro to Dental Assisting
DENA 0010
The Dental Assisting l (Introduction to Dental Assisting) course introduces the student to the dental assisting profession and teaches the fundamental concepts and principles necessary to fully participate as a member of the dental team.
Dental Assisting II - Infection Control
DENA 0011
The Dental Assisting ll (Infection Control) course lays out the fundamentals of oral diseases, infection control, microbiology, and safety procedures in the dental office.
Clinical Procedures - Dental Instruments and Equipment
DENA 0113
The Clinical Procedures I (Dental Instruments and Equipment) course identifies the proper use of instruments and equipment at the chair, and how to treat a medical emergency should one occur in the dental office. This course also explores a basic knowledge of the use of anesthesia and sedation in dentistry. An understanding of patient treatment procedures and pain control in the dental office is discussed.
Dental Assisting III -Patient Information
DENA 0112
The Dental Assisting lll (Patient Information) course introduces patient records and how to obtain and organize patient information. Instruction in measuring and recording vital signs is highlighted along with how to treat a Medical Emergency and CPR. This course also introduces the use of dental materials in a clinical setting. The storing, mixing, transferring and applying of materials is integrated in the instruction. Finally, this course introduces lab materials and procedures; the skills necessary to take alginate impressions; pour and trim casts and fabricate mouth guards and custom trays.
Specialties – Orthodontics, Pediatrics, Prosthodontics
DENA 0114
The Specialties course introduces the clinical concepts and basic skills related to the different specialties in the dental field and how their treatment is individual for each one. Types of orthodontic treatment, removable and fixed prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, and oral maxillofacial surgery procedures are discussed.
Dental Externship

The externship course presents the opportunity to practice skills acguired in dental assisting at a working dental office of clinic under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
