Welding Technology Level 2:
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)

Welding also is used to join beams in the construction of buildings, bridges, and other structures and to join pipes in pipelines, power plants, and refineries. A weld is the simplest and easiest way to join sections of pipe. The need for complicated joint designs and special threading equipment is eliminated. A welded pipe has reduced flow restrictions compared to mechanical connections and the overall installation costs are less. The most popular method for welding pipe is the shielded metal-arc process; however, gas shielded arc methods have made big inroads as a result of new advances in welding technology. Students enrolled in the Welding Technology Level 2 Program will learn the techniques necessary to certify to the following codes: AWS D1.1, API 1104, and ASME Section IX. Hands-on practice along with classroom study of theory and technique will be the emphasis of this training program.

The Welding Technology Level 2: Gas Metal Arc Welding 2 (GMAW 2) program will prepare students to work in a wide variety of industries, from fabricating custom car frames, engines and exhausts to fabrication of trailers, welding pressure vessels, signage for highways, work on pipelines as well as industrial repair and maintenance work.

In this process, students will learn to weld advanced joint configurations, including pipe to plate and  pipe to pipe. They will learn the RMD technique and Pulse Spray on carbon steel and aluminum.

Students will also learn advanced Testing and Inspection techniques and Thermal Cutting processes. Students learn industrial requirements and occupational skills needed in the welding field. The welding program emphasizes hands-on individualized instruction.
