The primary mission of the Limited X-ray Technology program is to prepare medical assistants with an understanding of the field of radiology within a limited scope. The primary responsibility of a limited x-ray technologist is to use the x-ray equipment to image the internal structures of the human body within their scope of practice. These imaging exams help medical providers diagnose and treat injuries and diseases.
Students in this program will be instructed in both the classroom and the laboratory to learn on-the-job skills, and then apply their knowledge in a clinical and/or work setting. Students must have an understanding of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology. Students will learn body positioning and the importance of radiation protection techniques. A limited x-ray technologist works primarily in clinics and physician offices. The duties of a limited x-ray technologist include but are not limited to preparing patients for an x-ray exam, explaining and performing the x-ray exam, medical assistant duties, and front desk and receptionist responsibilities.
